James Emery White is the founding and senior pastor of Mecklenburg Community Church in Charlotte, North Carolina (http://www.mecklenburg.org/); President of Serious Times, a ministry which explores the intersection of faith and culture (http://www.serioustimes.com/); and ranked adjunctive professor of theology and culture of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, which he also served as their fourth president.

Mecklenburg Community Church began with a single family and has grown to over 3,000 families, with over 6,000 active attenders. Mecklenburg experiences over seventy-percent of its growth from those who were previously unchurched.

James has visited here before with his excellent 'Rethinking the Church' seminars.

"James is a clear thinker and excellent communicator on church, evangelism and leadership."

Bill Hybels,
Senior Pastor, Willow Creek Community Church
President of Board, Willow Creek Association

Conference Sessions

Session One:  New Culture, New Methods presented by James Emery White
In this opening session, James Emery White explores how the culture has changed in ways that call for specific new approaches to church health and growth – approaches that have allowed Mecklenburg Community Church to grow from a single family to over 3,000 families, and over 6,000 active attenders.

Session Two: Breakout Workshops. (Click here for booking procedure)

Breakout 1: It's the Weekend
Exploring the weekend service experience and how to best leverage music, media, film, production and technology led by Mecklenburg Community Church Arts Director Kristina Gray. Kristina Gray majored in theatre at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  She attended the first public service of Mecklenburg Community Church as a 'religious skeptic' after being coaxed by a friend to give it a try.  Kristina oversees the development of every weekend service at Mecklenburg coordinating music, drama, media and film.  She's been serving on staff at Meck for 14 years.

Breakout 2: Worship That Attracts and Engages – Learn how modern worship has the opportunity both to honor and glorify God while being culturally relevant.
This workshop is led by Rick Harwell / Pastor of Worship at Mecklenburg Community Church. Having over 25 years of experience with worship leadership (in the local church and with a national touring band), Rick brings credible insight into the struggles of the Church to bring its timeless message of the Good News of Jesus Christ to an increasingly Godless culture.

Breakout 3: Reaching Kids, Reaching Families
Gain practical ideas for creating a place that engages children and their families through a dynamic children's ministry. Susan White, Director of MecKidz, has been in involved in children's ministry for 17 years.  From the early years of church planting to now leading a ministry with over 300 volunteers and 1000 children, Susan knows what it is like to start with little more than a vision and a calling.

Breakout 4: For Senior Pastors Only
Presented by James Emery White, this workshop will explore the dynamics of senior leadership and the necessary steps leaders must take – and decisions they must make – in order for their church to reach its full redemptive potential.

Lunch Chat: Harnessing the Internet for Church Growth via internet
with Joe Essick, Mecklenburg Community Church Internet Campus Pastor.

Session Three: Breakout Sessions (as above)

Session Four:  From Rethinking to Change presented by James Emery White
In this final session, James Emery White explores the specific steps needed to move a church toward innovation and change, and for all churches to step into needed innovation in a fast-changing world.
